Factors

Factors Bright Zoom Maths, Numbers, which multiplied together to give a product, are called factors. All numbers have one and themselves as a factor. Examples Factors of 24 : 24 = 1 x 24 24= 3 x 8 24= 4 x 6 24 = 12 x 2 Factors of 24 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24 Factor pairs of 24 are (1, 24), (3, 8), (4, 6), (12, 2) Factors of 36 : 36 = 1 x 36 36 = 2 x 18 36 = 3 x 12 36 = 4 x 9 36 = 6 x 6 Factors of 36  are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, 36 Factor pairs of 36  are (1,36), (2,18), (3,12), (4,9), (6,6) Factors of 18 : 18 = 1 X 18 18 = 2 X 9 18 = 3 X 6 Factors of 18 are 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18 Factor pairs of 36 are (1,18), (2,9), (3,6)

Highest Common Factor (H.C.F)

Highest Common Factor (H.C.F),, Bright Zoom Maths, The Highest Common Factor (H.C.F) of two (or more) numbers is the largest number that divides evenly into both numbers. H.C.F is the largest of all the common factors. Examples : H.C.F. of 18 and 30 : 18 = 2 X 3 X 3 30 = 2 X 3 X 5 Common Factors of 18 and 30 is 2 x 3 H.C.F. is 2x3 = 6 H.C.F. of 48 and 72 : 48 = 2 X 2 X 2 X 2 X 3 72 = 2 X 2 X 2 X 3 X 3 Common Factors of 48  and 72 is 2 X 2 X 2 X 3 H.C.F. is 2 X 2 X 2 X 3 = 24 There is no factor of one number, which is also a factor of the other number, except for 1. Such pair of numbers is called relatively prime; they are prime in relation to each other. Examples H.C.F. of 140 and 27 : 140 = 1 x 2 X 2 X 5 X 7 27 = 1 x 3 X 3 X 3 H.C.F. of 70 and 99 : 70 = 1 x 2 X 5 X 7 99 = 1 x 3 X 3 X 11 Looking at the factors, there is no common factor except number 1. Such pair of numbers is called relatively prime; they are prime in relation to e...
